Bayeux

After Mont St Michel, we made a brief stopover in Bayeux to the north of Normandy.

Bayeux is a sleepy and quaint small French town. We were lucky to be there on the eve of the D-Day anniversary, so the town was a little livelier than usual with a parade in honour of the Allied invasion of Normandy during World War II.

The town is also famous for the Bayeux Tapestry - an impressive 70-metre long embroidered cloth which depicts the Norman conquest of England. It was a charming place for a little bit of history as we learned how William Duke of Normandy defeated the Anglo-Saxon King Harold Godwinson in the Battle of Hastings.

Next stop on the road trip ... the Normandy Landing beaches.
