Pizzas and Puerto Madero

I have found the best pizza in Buenos Aires.  It's a big call to make, but there I said it.

The thing is, Argentine pizzas are a bit different - they are deep pan and covered in cheese.  Not my personal preference; I'm more of a traditional wood fired pizza fan.  Thin crispy base with simple toppings just like the Italians make it.

And it was a group of Italians who introduced me to Filo - this gem of a restaurant in the neighbourhood of Retiro.  I tagged along to Danny's lunch with the local Trentino society - they swear by Filo as serving up the best pizza in town.

Lunch began with bruschetta.

And a round of Aperol Spritzes for the table.

The restaurant was filled with Italian nonnos and nonnas taking their families out to eat.

If that doesn't say authentic Italian, I don't know what does!

Now I was going to tell you a joke about pizza.  But never mind, it's too cheesy...

So I'll just get on with the details!

Montello - tomato salsa, mozzarella, pancetta, parmesan and egg.  The egg topping is a bit of an Argentine twist.

Al Proscuitto - tomato sauce, mozzarella and prosciutto ham.

Al Salame Piccante - tomato sauce, mozzarella and spicy salami.

Al Brie - tomato sauce, mozzarella, brie, fresh tomato and rocket.

Finishing up with coffee, of course.

Although I regretted not ordering dessert when I saw the panna cotta dessert come out!

After lunch, we walked down to Puerto Madero.

The waterfront development is Buenos Aires' newest barrio and has been filling up with swish new hotels, restaurants and shops in the last few years.

It's also home to the famous Women's Bridge.

We walked across and stayed to watch the sun set.

A beautiful place to be at twilight.

Buenos Aires, you've stolen a pizza my heart.
