MOMA and Magnolia Bakery

It was a rainy and windy day in New York today.

We made the mistake of trying to buy cheap Broadway tickets but after taking one look at the line, there was no way we were going to wait hours in the rain for that.

(Very precious of me, I know…)

It was the kind of day that makes your hair frizzy and your shoes all wet from accidentally stepping into puddles.

I wasn't too happy about it.

But not even bad weather can make this city look bad.

Given the weather condition, it was a much better idea to stay indoors.

So we started with a little tour of Grand Central Station.

It is, hands down, the most beautiful train station I've ever seen.

But also, under Grand Central is a food court that is definitely worth checking out.

In particular … Magnolia Bakery.

There are two things you must try from Magnolia before you die: a red velvet cupcake and the banana pudding.

Today was a cupcake day.

We were more than excited.

Cupcake cravings satisfied, we moved on to the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).

If you only have time for one art gallery in New York, then I would pick MOMA over the rest any day.

We started with the Gauguin exhibition on the top floor.

I couldn't fit his whole name in this picture with Ilia, but as we got to know his work pretty well I like to refer to him as 'Gaugs' anyway.

No photos are allowed in the temporary exhibitions, but you can go crazy with your camera in the rest of the museum.

My favourite floor is Level 4.

Full of the best stuff from Andy Warhol,

Jackson Pollock,

Jasper Johns,

And other random pieces like this silver poop.

(name of the artist I don't recall sorry!)

I'm always whinging when the rain pours down, but I gotta say - not even bad weather can spoil a day in the Big Apple.
