A Fancy Futbol Lunch

It's been pretty exciting to be in Buenos Aires during the FIFA World Cup!

The event might be held in Rio, but the energy and excitement is just as high in Argentina - especially now that Argentina has made it into the final.

I promise to post what we get up to for the final match being held today, but for now I will flash back to one of the earlier games.

Usually we go to rowdy sports bars or street parties to watch the matches, but for this game (Argentina vs Iran) we did something a little more fancy.

Milion is a beautiful bar in Recoleta.  The bar is inside a grand old mansion with a very pretty back courtyard - the perfect place for cocktails late in the evening.

We came for lunch and watched the game on a big screen they had set up for the occasion.

In hindsight, Danny and I were really slack in our efforts to show support for Argentina.

Especially compared to Nick and Lucy.

Everybody else painted blue and white flags on their faces, plopped wigs on their heads and wore their Messi shirts with pride.

(And Danny and I have promised we will do the same for the final!)

We had all been out late together the night before (did somebody say Jagerbombs?!).

So as you can imagine, Bloody Mary was the most popular drink at lunch today.

With extra tabasco for Miss Bennet, of course.

As for those who are more interested in el fútbol, Argentina won!  It was 0-0 for almost all of the game until Messi (who is referred to with God-like status here) kicked a goal in the very last minute.

After the game, Danny and I strolled past the Recoleta markets.

Where I bought myself some new alpaca wool boots.

I know it's not cool to wear Ugg boots around, but I'm pretty happy not to be freezing in ballet flats anymore.  Winter is really kicking in here.

We walked down to the park for sunset at the Steel Flower.

It's a beautiful and grand sculpture from Argentine architect Eduardo Catalano.

The flower used to close its petals in the evening and reopen again in the morning - but sadly the flower is broken these days.  And it's a little obvious...

Of course, you can just crop out the crooked petal from your photos and it will still look picture perfect!

We only have a few more weeks in Argentina until it all comes to an end.  Danny and I are trying to make the most of it and enjoying as much as we can.
