Tilcara Inca Ruins
Our road trip to Jujuy didn't exactly start out as planned.
What was meant to be a scenic route of colourful mountains turned out to be fog and rain … everywhere!
It was a bit disappointing, to say the least.
For the first few hours of the road trip, the only mildly exciting thing we saw was a herd of goats. Not quite the photogenic scenery I was hoping for.
Then, as if Pachamama herself had heard my prayers - the rain stopped and clouds cleared away on the road ahead.
And this magically appeared in front of us.
It was breathtaking to see.
After our stop in Purmamarca, we headed up north a little further to the town of Tilcara.
Next to the town are some ancient Inca ruins. The ruins aren't anything remarkable, but the cacti growing over the ruins are out of this world! In hindsight, we hardly took any photos of the ruins and spent all our time obsessing over the cacti.
This particular cactus friend was giving out free hugs. I thought, why not?!
Some parts of the Inca ruins have been reconstructed so you can see what it would have looked like.
This next piece of information will blow your mind: they used cactus inside the Inca buildings. It's basically used like timber.
I warned you we were obsessed with cacti.
'We' being this sexy group here. We have three poses to show you: smiling, sexy and silly. I'll leave you to judge which pose is which!
Let me finish this post off with a little story.
Two balloons are floating across the desert.
One balloon says to the other: "Look out for the cactus!"
The other balloon says: "What cactussssssssssss?!"
More beautiful scenery and bad jokes to come - stay tuned!
