Salinas Grandes

The salt flats of South America have always been at the top of my bucket list.

I kicked myself for missing out on the Salar de Uyuni when I was in Bolivia a few years ago (there were road blockages to the salt flats at the time) and so I was incredibly excited when we planned to visit the Salinas Grandes in Argentina.  These areas used to be lakes that eventually dried up into salt deserts.  The unique flat scenery is an unreal sight to see and a photographer's dream.

Instead of taking the Train a Las Nubes back to Salta, we joined a bus tour back which made a detour to the Salinas Grandes.

The problem is … they only gave us five minutes to appreciate the salinas!  If we had more time I'm sure we could have got some really cool photos.  In any case, these are the quick snapshots that we managed to take in the very short amount of time that we were at the Salinas Grandes.

Okay, I really didn't have a concept for that last one.

Did I ever tell you that I'm a bit self conscious about being little?

Luckily, we are a group of friends who accept everyone no matter what their size is!

Although sometimes, just for fun - we like to pull your leg.

Then, five minutes was up and we were rushed back to the bus.  But Marica and I insisted - "But first ...

… let me take a salt flat selfie!"

They wouldn't hear a word of it and ushered us back inside to the back of the bus.

What can I say, we're back seat bad-asses.

If we had our time again, we would have skipped the tour and driven to the salinas ourselves from Purmamarca so that we could spend a lot more time there (here is a link to a good guide).  But I'm trying not to feel to 'flat' about it - it would just be rubbing 'salt' into the wound.

Okaaay, I'll stop in-salt-ing you with my bad humour now!
