Brunch in Buenos Aires

Back home in Australia, brunch is a weekend ritual.  A ritual that I hold very, very sacred.

In Buenos Aires, it's not so common - and it breaks my heart!

So I was very glad to have met Susannah - another Australian living in Buenos Aires who is committed to brunch dates as my friends back home.  And I am especially glad that she introduced me to this little gem of a cafe in Palermo - Malvon.

Brunch may not be super common, but when they serve it - they do it reaaaally well.

Today, we began with warm bread and strawberry butter.  Fluffy and sweet, and a delight to nibble on!

Susannah had a cuppa.

While I went for a pick me up latte.

And a fresh lemonade.

Next, cornbread muffin with cream cheese.

Fruit and crunchy muesli in an amaretto syrup parfait.

Then, the real deal.

I think that Eggs Benedict deserves a close up!

Poached to perfection, with hollandaise sauce drizzled on top with capers and salad.

It was a meal not to be missed.

Which was why Danny decided to join us too.

I've promised to come back for these mouthwatering cakes.

Needless to say, we left Malvon with big smiles on our faces.

After brunch, Danny and I wandered down Sante Fe Avenue to a bookstore called El Ateneo.

It's so much more than just any old bookstore.

This one, is set in an old theatre!

Pretty cool, huh?

You can sit at the cafe on the stage and enjoy a cup of coffee while browsing the store's books.

There is even live classical music.

But my favourite areas are the theatre booths.

Definitely the place to go to if you want to curl up in a corner and lose yourself in the written world.
