Bondi to Bronte Walk

One of my favourite things to do in Sydney is the coastal walk from Bondi to Tamarama to Bronte.

It's a short little walk between these three stunning beaches with incredible views along the way.  At only six kilometres return, not even a big whinger like me can complain about how far it is to walk.

You can run back and forth this path a million times but it never gets old - the iconic beaches and coastline are simply breathtaking and if I could live on a beachfront anywhere in the world, it would be here.

So without further ado, let's start this perfect summer day at beautiful Bondi.  Here she is in all her glory.

On the south end of Bondi Beach is Icebergs - the swimming club famous for this amazing lap pool:

I just want to drool at this view overlooking Bondi beach …

Visitors are welcome to swim in the pool for a small entry fee of $5.50.  But personally, I think the view is much better appreciated from the bistro and bar upstairs.  Glass of wine and seafood platter for two?  Yes please.

But not today - we've got a walk to do!

The paved track to Tamarama  crosses a gully and sweeps around a rocky cove.

Then there are some steep steps to walk up until you reach the top of the cliff.

Boys - now is the time to take your shirt off and strike a pose.  Danny couldn't wait to do this.

And I decided to do my own little stunt on the cliff's edge.

As the saying goes: "If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space."

Further along the headland, you can start to see glimpses of Tamarama Beach and Bronte Beach come into view.

Danny was very excited to see the surfers in the water.

Whereas I was less interested and looking completely in the wrong direction.

Others climbed down into the secluded bay to bathe among the rocks.

Then the bright and colourful Tamarama Surf Lifesaving Club emerged ahead and greeted us to this sexy little beach also known as … 'Glamarama'.

That was the nickname they called it in the '80s - at a time when Tamarama was widely regarded as Sydney's gayest beach.  Apparently, the gays have since migrated to North Bondi (but let's be honest - the gays practically own all of Sydney and that is why it is a fashion and culture capital!) and the huge waves at Tamarama Beach were left to the surfers.

Last but not least, Danny led the way to Bronte Beach.

(… while I dawdled behind snapping photos left right and centre.)

It is just quick stumble around the next headland.  Walking along the road, you arrive there quicker than you can spell Tamarama out loud.

Bronte Beach is a little more laid-back and family friendly.  There is a rock pool at one end of the beach that I love.  I'm embarrassed to admit that it is catered for children, but hear me out - it is also a great place for wusses like me to swim in the ocean without being intimated by the rough surf and without getting my hair wet.  Win win!

After a walk and a swim, it was finally time for food.  Danny became slightly addicted to burgers in Australia so we ordered two burgers to take away from Pure Bronte Pistachio across the road from Bronte beach.

I never appreciated this until Danny came to visit, but Australians really do know how to make the perfect burger.

The secret ingredient is a slice of beetroot.  Just slap it inside a softly toasted sesame bun together with a medium-grilled beef pattie, sautéed onions, fresh salad and a generous dollop of barbecue sauce.

As we were by the sea, I was in a fish and chips mood and ordered a Barramundi burger instead.  It was equally burger-licious.

Burger, beach and boyfriend - simple needs for a simple gal like me.

Now excuse me while I head down to the sand with my other not-so-simple needs: new Zimmermann bikinis, Ray Ban sunglasses and Country Road beach towel.
